The Oxygen Mask Principle: Finding Your Ideal Work-Life Balance

We all wear many hats – parent, spouse, friend, orthodontist. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and put our own needs and dreams on the back burner.

To effectively help others, you must first nourish your own soul. This means identifying and pursuing the lifestyle that brings you joy and fulfillment.

There’s no one right way to do it.

Prioritize your own well-being. Just like you need your oxygen mask to be effective, you need to recharge your own batteries to be the best orthodontist, parent, spouse, and friend you can be.

That extra week of vacation may not make a dent in your bottom line, but it will make a huge difference in your soul and your relationships.

I hope this motivates you to dream big and craft the career and life you truly desire!

And that’s part of my message in this 5-minute episode.

As someone who works with mental health professionals, I’ve noticed a concerning trend. Millennial parents are pouring a tremendous amount of energy into their children – more so than any generation before.

While the desire to be a great parent is wonderful, this level of intensity can create some serious problems.

If this resonates with you, I urge you to take a step back for a moment. Here’s my challenge for you: For one week, resist the urge to post anything about your children on social media.

Instead, focus on yourself. Post what you like, and rediscover hobbies or find new things that bring you joy.
